SANDWICH BUSINESS GROUP

MINUTES

October 5, 2009

ATTENDING:  Don Brown, Patsy Carega, Julie Deak, Diane Johnson, Bob MacArthur, Don Sutton
Chairman Don Brown called the meeting to order at 8: 40 a.m. at Mocha Rizing.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the September 14, 2009 meeting were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Julie reported a balance of $3,176.90 as of September 29.  With some outstanding deposits and invoices yet to be processed the balance will increase.  The Treasurer’s report was approved.

OLD BUSINESS
Don S attended the 2nd Annual Central NH Economic Forecast Forum September 30, which was attended by 100 people.  The state has established a position to help improve telecommunications infra structure for the entire state and especially in the north.  The main speaker was economist, Russ Thibeault.  Citing a number of economic indicators, he thinks that we are at the bottom of the recession but that it will take longer to emerge than anticipated earlier.  NH was lagging getting into the recession and will probably be lagging coming out of it.

The networking event at Longhaul farm was cancelled for lack of attendance.  It will be rescheduled.

No one who had attended the Green Building open house tour on Saturday was present to report how it went.

NEW BUSINESS
The Sandwich Fair committee contacted Don B to offer free space in the Crafts Demonstration building for a SBG table for exhibiting brochures.  We agreed to take advantage of the offer.

Events Committee

  • Halloween Haunting in Town
    • Don B asked if any businesses want to get involved.  It was agreed that Don B will talk with Ashley Bullard to see if there is anything we can do this year to bolster the event for Sandwich residents.
  • Christmas Fairnothing has been done on this so far, given everyone’s involvement in Sandwich Fair.  Diane reported that she and her informal committee will begin planning this after the Sandwich Fair.  SBG would be receptive to co-sponsoring the carriage rides again this year.  We will revisit this topic at our November meeting with Diane’s recommendations in hand.
  • SBG’s planning for the Annual Meeting and support of the Sled Dog Race (February 20th) will proceed in November.

UPCOMING BUSINESS FORUMS AND NETWORK EVENTS:
Lakes Region Association of NH holds its annual business meeting and networking social Wednesday October 7, 5:30-8:00 p.m. aboard the MS Mount Washington at Weirs Beach.

MARKETING COMMITTEE
The committee will meet to prepare recommendations before the November meeting.

FUTURE SECOND CUP CONVERSATIONS
We agreed to ask Elizabeth McCrellish to lead a conversation on internet marketing following our November meeting.  Julie will be attending a seminar on credit card processing and will work with Don B to invite a facilitator for that topic following our December meeting.   There was no Second Cup Conversation this month.

NEXT MEETING
The next SBG meeting will be November 2, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. at Mocha Rizing.

ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 9:32 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Bob MacArthur
