SANDWICH BUSINESS GROUP
MINUTES
May 5, 2008

Members Present:  Ben Adriance, Patsy Carega,  Julie Deak, Bob Dunlap, Judi Dunlap, Sarah Zuccarelli, Ted Adriance, Don Brown, Juli Hird, Susan Davies, and Diane Johnson and Lisa Shambaugh.

President, Don Brown, called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m.

SECRETARY:  A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes from the last meeting.

TREASURER:  Julie Deak announced that we have 64 members for 2008.  A copy of her report is attached to the minutes.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer's report.

BROCHURE:
A copy of this years brochure was circulated for approval.  It will be two color (green and black) on ivory paper.  There was discussion as to whether or not to include the logo on the brochure.  The group agreed to place our logo on the back panel and also  voted to increase the size to 12" x 18".   The larger size will still fit in a business envelope.
After hearing printing estimates, the group opted for Keystone Press in Manchester.  Their offer was the best at $1594.00 (12"x 18" brochures) for 20,000 copies.
The brochures should be ready mid May.  It will be mailed to Sandwich addresses.  Last year we were able to piggy back with the industries thereby saving half of the postage.  We can explore such an opportunity for this year as well.  Other distribution points included Keep Sake Quilting,  Preferred Properties,  our own businesses, the Ossipee Chamber, the Squam Lakes Area Chamber, the kiosk at the end of Bean Road and the Moultonboro Country Store bulletin board.  S. Tamworth's gas station  and Chickadee Station were also mentioned.  All points of distribution should be documented.

BETHANY POWERS:  Program Director and Children's Librarian at Wentworth Library, spoke about the 2nd Annual Community Barn Dance to support the Youth Services section of the library.   The dance will be at the Hird/Conley barn (Range Road)  on June 28th.  Proceeds will go to Youth Services at the Library.  Her committee is looking for sponsors and items to auction.  Neal Hill Caravan will call the dance.  It will be followed by a pot luck supper. Sponsors would be recognized throughout the publicity process.  A copy of Glynis Miner's letter to the SBG is attached to the minutes.

ADVERTISING:
Don passed around a copy of the Best Read Guide Ad.

The Greater Ossipee Chamber guide ad.  Black and white would cost $37.50 per participant and spot color would cost $39.32 per participant.
Sometime after Memorial Day the SBG will host the information booth volunteers from the Greater Ossipee Chamber in Sandwich.  The group will be invited to tour our businesses and meet with our members.

Sandwich Fair Brochure.  Earl Peaslee has offered us centerfold space (normally $350) for $175.00 in the Fair's brochure.  We would have the logo and domain name in the space.

Sandwich Historical Society:  Lisa Shambaugh slightly modified the description of our group in the Historical Society's book.  She changed the exact number of members to "over sixty members".

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Judi Dunlap has been working on a "bike tour".  She will tuck her map into bike week brochure.

Sandwich Sled Dog Races are looking for sponsors  and volunteers next winter.  The race will be on Feb. 21st. Prizes and donations are welcome.

Other ideas of events where the SBG participation would be interesting include: Christmas in the Village, Old Home Week,  and the Women's Club Raffle.  It was also suggested that we encourage the RV visitors to Sandwich to tour our businesses.  We could welcome them to Sandwich and we should make the brochure available to them and perhaps offer discounts.

Judi Dunlap brought up the question as to when members, who have not paid their dues, get dropped from the group.  In the future we need to set a deadline prior to the brochure's printing.  For this year we discussed giving  them until the end of the month to pay or they will be dropped from the website.   A motion was made, seconded and passed that June 1st, 2008 will be the deadline for this year.  Members who have not paid by this date will be dropped from the website.

NEXT MEETING WILL BE  JUNE 2ND AT MOCHA RIZING AT 8:30.

Respectfully submitted:

Patsy Carega.
